Alex Bolotow, Chair, called the meeting of the WEC to order at 7:01 pm on June 2, 2021.

 

Members Present: David Gross (Vice Chair), Julia Blelock, Bob Wolff (Secretary), Arlene Weissman, Alex Bolotow (Chair) and Nick Foad.  Members Absent:  Erin Moran.  Guests were Angelina Peone (Director of Sustainability, UCRRA), Ken Panza, and Laura Ricci (Town Board Member).

 

Julia moved to adopt the evening’s proposed agenda. Bob seconded the motion and the agenda was adopted as follows:

Announcements

Alex announced the June 16 meeting of the WEC will be “in-person” at the Town offices.

 

Updates

Municipal Composting.  Angelina Peone of the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency provided an overview of the composting program at UCRRA.  She reviewed the following options with the WEC:

 

  • promote composting at home, such as backyard or indoor composting, 

 

  • establish community scale (on site) composting, such as at a community garden or community center, 
  • establish a residential food scrap drop off program, such as a farmer’s market or community center,
  • curbside food scrap collection is available in select locations locally.

Farmers Market.  The WEC will have a table on Wednesday, July 21 at the Farmer’s Market.

 

Youth Center Energy Audit.  The audit is scheduled for June 11 and 18th, gratis, by Green Jobs Initiative from Citizens for Local Power.

 

10 Church Road/Fill Law.  Laura indicated a one month extension has been granted to for the hearing.  Bob provided technical comments on the new Fill Law for submittal to the Town Board.

 

Natural Resources Inventory/CEA/Planning Board.  Alex, Julia, Erin and Arlene attended Hudsonia’s first meeting on June 1st; it mostly focused on the identification of ecological/historical/hazardous areas of land use.

 

Brochure.  Nick will provide input for presentation at the July 21st Farmer’s Market.

 

Earth Day.  Erin will share a “responsibility” spreadsheet with the WEC via email.

 

New/Other Business

 

Town Construction Moratorium.  The Town Board has scheduled a public meeting on June 8 at Mescal Hornbeck Community Center.
