Minutes of Regular Meeting

                                                                              June 2, 2014

The regular meeting of the Commission for Civic design was called to order by Chairperson

David Ekroth at 6:10 pm.

Present: David Ekroth, Hera, Cornelia Rosenblum, Richard Heppner, Joan Elliott

A quorum was present, the Agenda adopted as corrected and minutes from 4/21/14, adopted as written.

            Visitors:

Applicants: Les Walker and Jess Walker, architects, (+ Tracy Kellogg, legal) for Miller Howard office building

+ Cathy Magarelli (TB rep.) for MH Community Center

Guests: Martin Nystrom, David Stein, Sonja Yuang (sp.?)

Discussion:

Richard Heppner reported on the I-luv-NY signs that appeared on the Village Green, and on Rt.375 near             intersection with 212, (officially the “Gateway to Woodstock”) an area crowded with a preponderance of             disparate unorganized road and other signage sometimes called the Sign Farm).

Some of the new signs were moved to more appropriate areas.

Case Reviews:

Miller Howard - renovation and addition for business offices to a former industrial building in Bearsville.

All CCD members agreed with the design, colors and materials, etc.  David Eckroth will send an OK

to the Planning Board, so that the project may proceed.

MH Community Center renovation/addition.  CCD agreed with the general form of the work planned.

Some ideas came up for the entry and its exterior area enlarged to function as a “porch” and

gathering place.  Also discussed were the handicap ramp locations and appropriateness of a front

entry to building.  CCD has set up a next meeting (6/16/14) to explore possible solutions for these points.

CCD member Richard Heppner expressed his wish (as town historian) to preserve the Cupola on the roof                                     peak for it’s historical value.  Les Walker explained that the entire roof needs repair and maintenance.

For the cupola they must assess its structure and condition and then, if possible, within budget, be                                                 able to replace it. And CCD would like to see some landscaping in front of the building.

Case Reviews-Pending:

Design for improvements and additions to the Community Center

            Library Annex

            Town Hall signs and directories

Holy Ascension Monastery, Cold Brook Road, continual design review

Landau Grill on Mill Hill Road, front porch renovations

Bread Alone, Mill Hill Road: possible 2nd story addition

The meeting was adjourned at 7:35 pm.
