Woodstock Area Meals on Wheels, an independent organization serving the Woodstock area in cooperation with the Woodstock Council of Churches, prepares and delivers hot, wholesome meals every day to the homes of the elderly, shut-ins, handicapped and convalescents within the area of Woodstock.
This service is available to those who are physically unable to prepare a daily hot meal for themselves. Meals on Wheels can accommodate those with special dietary needs, including vegetarians, diabetics, and individuals with food allergies. If additional meals are needed on the weekend, they can be delivered on Friday.
Not a charity, Woodstock Meals on Wheels provides a vital service to the community and is staffed by public-spirited volunteers. There is a suggested donation per meal. Though Meals on Wheels attempts to be self supporting it accepts private donations. The Town of Woodstock, local churches, and civic and fraternal groups have been very generous as well. We are extremely grateful for this community support.
The well being of our clients is our primary concern, so on occasion an extra meal may be delivered in anticipation of a major winter storm that might interrupt delivery the following day. All meals are prepared in the kitchen of the Dutch Reformed Church of Woodstock, meeting all of the standards of the Ulster County Health Department.
Woodstock Area Meals on Wheels always welcomes new volunteers as drivers or as kitchen aides. Drivers spend about one hour on their deliveries, while kitchen aides contribute two hours per week. We also have weekly shoppers pick up the groceries based on the menu the chef plans for the following week. If you are interested in volunteering, please call our kitchen, Monday thru Friday from 8:00 to 11:00 @ 845-679-4656.
